The OSG 5310600 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it handles elevated cutting temperatures better than standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 7/16 inch in diameter with a 1 inch length of cut and a 3/8 inch shank diameter, giving it a regular-length profile suited for most vertical and horizontal milling setups. Three spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
This end mill is used in job shop, maintenance, and production machining environments where cobalt tooling is preferred over carbide for its toughness and resistance to chipping. At 2-11/16 inches overall length, it fits standard ER and straight-bore toolholders with a 3/8 inch bore. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration matches conventional milling machine spindle rotation. Uncoated finish makes it straightforward to re-sharpen. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and MRO technicians working in steel, stainless, and cast iron will find this a practical general-purpose choice in the Series 531 line.
Designed as an OEM-style cutting tool for use in milling machines accepting a 3/8 inch straight shank, including ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and similar toolholding systems compatible with Series 531 geometry.
Installation is performed by machinists using appropriate collet chucks or end mill holders rated for the 3/8 inch shank diameter. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked before seating or removing the tool. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation to confirm proper seating. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines for speeds and feeds when cutting with cobalt end mills.
