The OSG 5310100 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in a wide range of metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool delivers reliable performance in materials that generate significant heat during cutting. The end mill features a 0.125-inch cutting diameter, a 0.375-inch length of cut, and a 3-flute spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration suits standard milling setups, and the centercutting design allows plunge entry into a workpiece. It carries a 0.375-inch shank diameter and a 2.3125-inch overall length.
This end mill is suited for use on manual knee mills, CNC machining centers, and benchtop milling machines. It is commonly applied in job shops, toolrooms, and maintenance environments where operators are working with steel alloys, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. The uncoated finish makes this tool straightforward to resharpen, which is a practical advantage in toolroom settings. The Series 531 designation identifies it within the OSG standard cobalt end mill line, and its regular-length geometry fits the majority of short-reach milling tasks.
Designed as a standard square end mill for use in any milling machine or machining center with a collet or end mill holder accepting a 0.375-inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator using an appropriate collet, end mill holder, or milling chuck rated for the 0.375-inch shank. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down or in an e-stop state before inserting or removing the tool. Verify runout at the collet before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on cobalt tooling. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer feeds-and-speeds guidance for the specific workpiece material.
