The OSG 5270500 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling, slotting, and profiling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling, making it well suited for harder workpiece materials and higher cutting speeds. The 0.375-inch diameter cutting geometry features 2 spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle and a right-hand cut, right-hand flute configuration. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral milling.
This end mill is intended for use in vertical mills, knee mills, CNC machining centers, and manual machines where a 3/8-inch shank is the specified toolholder size. With a 0.75-inch length of cut and a 1.75-inch reach length, it handles shallow-to-moderate depth passes in production and maintenance machining environments. It ships uncoated and falls within the OSG Series 527 regular-length product family. Typical users include machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance professionals working across job shops and manufacturing facilities.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling option for any machine tool accepting a 3/8-inch straight shank end mill holder, collet chuck, or shrink-fit toolholder; part of the OSG Series 527 regular-length cobalt end mill line.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using an appropriate collet, end mill holder, or set-screw-style toolholder rated for the 0.375-inch shank diameter. Ensure the toolholder is clean and free of chips before seating the shank to the recommended engagement depth. Confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before starting the cut. Follow the machine manufacturer and shop safety guidelines for RPM, feed rate, and depth of cut based on workpiece material.
