The OSG 5254100 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in metal cutting applications. Built to Series 525 standards, it features a 7/8 inch diameter with a 2-1/2 inch length of cut and a 4-3/4 inch overall length. The two-flute, spiral flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this end mill delivers heat and wear resistance suitable for demanding ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is centercutting, allowing plunge cuts, and runs with right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation. Supplied uncoated and ready for use.
This end mill is suited for general-purpose slot milling, side milling, and profiling operations on manual mills and CNC machining centers. The long-series length of cut makes it appropriate for deeper cavity work and extended-reach applications where a standard-length end mill cannot access the full depth of a feature. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in job shops, maintenance environments, and production settings will find this tool applicable to a wide range of steel, stainless, and alloy cutting tasks.
Designed as a standard-shank square end mill compatible with 7/8 inch collets, milling chucks, and end mill holders used on manual knee mills and CNC vertical machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before inserting or removing the tool from its holder. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism according to the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut to maximize tool life and surface finish quality.
