The OSG 5229700 is a double-end cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and hard materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention under demanding cutting conditions. The tool measures 0.4688 inches in diameter with a 0.8125-inch length of cut and a 0.5000-inch shank diameter. The 30-degree helix angle and two-flute spiral geometry promote efficient chip evacuation. At 3.75 inches overall length, it fits standard milling machine and CNC tool holders. The bright, uncoated finish suits applications where coating compatibility or regrinding is a priority. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this end mill for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling.
This end mill is suited for job shop and production machining environments where cobalt tooling is specified for alloy steels, stainless steels, and other materials that generate elevated cutting temperatures. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life between regrinds. It falls within the OSG Series 522 regular-length lineup, targeting general-purpose milling tasks in both manual and CNC setups where a 15/32-inch diameter and 13/16-inch depth of cut meet the application requirement.
Designed for use in standard 1/2-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, or milling machine spindles accepting a 0.5000-inch shank diameter. Suitable for CNC machining centers and manual knee mills within the OSG Series 522 regular-length end mill family.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out per shop safety procedures. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the set screw or collet is torqued per the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use. Follow applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements when operating milling equipment.
