The OSG 5227300 is a 2-flute cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling in a wide range of ferrous and high-temperature alloy materials. It features a 19/32 inch (0.5938 inch) cutting diameter, a 1-1/8 inch length of cut, and a 5/8 inch shank diameter, with a 4-1/2 inch overall length. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this end mill delivers hardness and heat resistance that outlasts standard HSS tooling in demanding cuts. The 30-degree helix spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. It is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry into workpiece material. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this type of end mill in manual mills and CNC machining centers.
The OSG 5227300 is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations in job shops, production environments, and maintenance machining settings. Its regular-length configuration makes it a practical choice for standard-depth cuts in steel, stainless steel, and similar materials. The uncoated finish allows for easy resharpening. The double-end design provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life between replacements. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation match conventional spindle rotation on most machining center setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling selection for milling applications requiring a 5/8 inch shank, 19/32 inch diameter end mill in conventional or CNC milling setups. Part of the OSG Series 522 regular-length cobalt end mill line.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before installing or removing end mills. Secure the 5/8 inch shank in a compatible end mill holder or collet chuck, ensuring proper seating depth and runout within acceptable tolerances for the application. Inspect the cutting edges and shank for damage before each use.
