The OSG 5226300 is a double-end cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations on ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool delivers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS end mills. It features a 15/64 inch (0.2344 inch) cutting diameter, a 1/2 inch length of cut, and a 30-degree right-hand helix. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life per unit. This end mill is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry as well as standard peripheral and slot milling. It is suited for use by machinists and tooling professionals in job shop, maintenance, and production environments.
The OSG 5226300 fits standard milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills where a 3/8 inch shank is appropriate. Its regular-length geometry and bright uncoated finish make it a general-purpose option for ferrous metals, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys where cobalt tooling is specified. The Series 522 designation places it in OSG's cobalt end mill line. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations in tool-and-die, aerospace maintenance, and general fabrication work.
Designed for use in standard milling machine collets and end mill holders accepting a 3/8 inch shank diameter. Fits ER-style collet chucks, Weldon-style holders, and similar toolholding systems sized for 3/8 inch straight-shank end mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank to the recommended engagement depth in the holder and torque set screws per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning cuts, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and reduces surface finish quality.
