The OSG 5222100 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in machine shop and production environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this double-end tool delivers two usable cutting ends, extending tool life between replacements. It features a 5/8 inch cutting diameter, a 1-1/8 inch length of cut, and a 4-1/2 inch overall length. The 30-degree spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action across a range of workpiece materials. Center-cutting capability allows for direct plunging into workpiece stock without a pre-drilled entry point. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this end mill in both manual and automated milling setups.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and contouring operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including stainless steel, alloy steels, and cast iron where cobalt tooling is preferred over standard HSS. The uncoated finish makes it a practical choice for operations where regrinding is part of the shop workflow. Its regular-length classification places it in standard reach applications where extended-reach tooling is not required. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is compatible with standard spindle rotation on conventional and CNC milling machines.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use end mill for standard 5/8 inch collets and end mill holders on conventional and CNC vertical milling machines. Part of the OSG Series 522 product line.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the milling machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder torqued to the machine manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning cutting operations to avoid premature tool wear or workpiece damage.
