The OSG 5205500 is a cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in milling operations on machining centers and manual mills. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool provides good heat and wear resistance for cutting ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It measures 1.5 inches in cutting diameter with a 1.625-inch length of cut and a 1-inch shank diameter, giving it a solid, rigid setup for heavier cuts. The 4.125-inch overall length suits standard spindle clearance in most vertical mills. A licensed machinist or tooling technician typically selects and installs this end mill for roughing and finishing passes in job shop, production, or maintenance machining environments.
This end mill fits applications where a right-hand spiral, center-cutting tool is required. The 30-degree helix angle promotes chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The two-flute geometry provides chip clearance suited to softer metals, aluminum, and general-purpose slotting or profiling. It is uncoated, making it appropriate for use with cutting fluid in conventional milling setups. This is a regular-length Series 520 tool from OSG, suited to shops that need a capable, general-purpose cobalt end mill for day-to-day machining tasks.
Designed as an OEM-style tooling solution for use in milling machines accepting a 1-inch straight shank end mill holder. Fits standard ER collet chucks, Weldon-style side-lock holders, and hydraulic chuck systems sized for a 1-inch shank.
Installation and tool changes must be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked or e-stopped state. The shank should be clean and free of chips before seating in the holder. Torque the set screw or collet nut to the holder specification — do not use the tool manufacturer torque values as a substitute for holder specifications. Always verify runout with a dial indicator after securing the tool before beginning a cut.
