The OSG 5201600 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials in metalworking and machining operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 17/32 inches (0.5313 inches) in diameter with a 1/2 inch shank, a 1-1/8 inch length of cut, and a 3-1/8 inch overall length. The 30-degree spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This end mill is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals running manual mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers.
The OSG 5201600 is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in ferrous metals, alloy steels, and stainless steels where cobalt tooling outperforms standard HSS. Its centercutting design allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled hole, adding setup flexibility. The regular-length profile fits standard tool holders and collet chucks accepting 1/2 inch shank tooling. It carries a right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation, which is the standard configuration for conventional and climb milling on most machine tools. Part of the OSG Series 520 lineup.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for any machine tool accepting 1/2 inch shank end mills, including knee mills, bed mills, and CNC machining centers with compatible collet chucks or end mill holders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Secure the shank fully in a clean, undamaged collet or end mill holder to the manufacturer-specified engagement depth before tightening. Inspect runout with a dial indicator before cutting to prevent premature tool wear or workpiece damage. Always de-energize and lock out the spindle before changing tooling per applicable machine guarding and OSHA standards.
