The OSG 5001400 is a spiral flute plug tap ground to 6-32 UNC thread form with a 3B class of fit and H2 thread limit. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, it is designed for right-hand threading in through-hole and blind-hole applications where chip evacuation is critical. The spiral flute geometry pulls chips up and out of the hole during tapping, reducing the risk of chip packing. Overall length is 2 inches, with a shank diameter of 0.141 inches and a thread length of 0.397 inches. This tap is suited for use in manual tapping operations and machine tapping setups across metalworking, maintenance, and fabrication environments.
The 5001400 is rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The plug chamfer style provides 3 to 5 leading threads, making it appropriate for both through-holes and deeper blind holes where a starting chamfer is acceptable. With a 50-degree helix angle, the flute design is optimized for soft to medium materials where aggressive chip lift is needed. This tap is a common choice for machine shops, maintenance technicians, and fabricators producing 6-32 threaded holes in steel and aluminum components.
Designed for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces requiring 6-32 UNC 3B-class threads. Compatible with standard 6-32 tapping chucks and tap holders accepting a 0.141-inch shank diameter.
Install and operate this tap using a properly sized tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC tapping cycle rated for the shank diameter. Power down or disengage the spindle before loading the tap into the holder to prevent accidental starts. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping oil for the workpiece material before beginning the threading operation. Do not force the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly — back off to clear chips before continuing to avoid breakage.
