The OSG 496-5003 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built to Series 496 specifications, it features a 1/2 inch diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 0.03 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at part edges and extends tool life in production environments. With 4 flutes, a right-hand spiral flute geometry, and a medium helix, this end mill delivers efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. It is centercutting and suitable for both roughing and finishing passes in a single tool. Licensed machinists and CNC operators rely on this geometry for consistent performance across a broad range of workpiece materials.
The 496-5003 is engineered for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials. Its 3 inch overall length and 1/2 inch straight cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard toolholders used in vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual knee mills. The bright uncoated finish suits applications where coating interaction with the workpiece material is a concern or where regrinding is planned. This is a single-end tool intended for general-purpose milling operations at normal pitch.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials as identified by material codes P, M, K, N, and H.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with end mill toolholding practices. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Verify runout and toolholder clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specifications before engaging the cut. Coolant through is not supported on this tool; apply external coolant or cutting fluid as required by the workpiece material and operation.
