The OSG 496-2502 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 3/4 inch length of cut, and a 0.02 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the tool tip and extends tool life on hardened and abrasive materials. The 4-flute, single-end design with a right-hand spiral flute and medium 30-degree helix is optimized for both roughing and finishing passes. A straight-cylindrical 1/4 inch shank fits standard toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this tool in milling centers for general metal removal work.
The 496-2502 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials. With a 2.5 inch overall length and regular-length flute geometry, it fits typical toolholder setups in vertical and horizontal machining centers. The uncoated bright finish makes it straightforward to inspect for wear and is appropriate for applications where coating buildup on the workpiece is a concern or where cutting fluid is applied directly. The centercutting capability allows plunge entry into the workpiece without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
Designed for use with standard straight-bore toolholders accepting a 1/4 inch cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials per OSG Series 496 application guidelines.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with end mill toolholder torque procedures and machine runout requirements. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Confirm shank seating depth and holder clamping to manufacturer specifications before engaging the cut. Follow all applicable shop safety protocols and machine tool manufacturer guidelines for speed and feed selection.
