The OSG 4910500 is a single-end square end mill engineered for general-purpose milling operations. Machined from cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS tooling, making it well suited for harder workpiece materials and interrupted cuts. The cutter measures 1 inch in diameter with a 2 inch length of cut and a 4-1/2 inch overall length. Five flutes with a 30-degree helix angle and coarse pitch geometry provide strong chip clearance and a smooth finish across a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. This tool is uncoated and runs right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction.
The OSG 4910500 is intended for use in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines across job shop, tool room, and production environments. The 1 inch shank diameter is compatible with standard ER, side-lock, and Weldon-style holders. Its stub-length classification means a stiffer setup with reduced deflection, making it appropriate for face milling, slotting, and shoulder milling applications where rigidity is a priority. Machinists and CNC operators in metalworking trades are the primary installers of this tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for standard 1 inch diameter milling holders used in conventional and CNC vertical milling applications. Part of the OSG Series 490 product line.
Installation requires a milling machine spindle with a 1 inch tool holder; confirm holder runout is within acceptable tolerance before use. Secure the shank fully into the holder to the recommended gauge line and tighten per the holder manufacturer torque guidelines. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against published cobalt HSS cutting data for the target workpiece material before beginning a cut.
