The OSG 464-5001 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. It carries a 0.5 inch cutting diameter with a 1 inch length of cut and a 4 inch overall length. The four-flute geometry and 30-degree helix angle work together to balance chip evacuation and surface finish quality. Micrograin carbide construction provides the hardness and wear resistance needed for ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The tool is center-cutting, allowing direct plunge entry into a workpiece without pre-drilling. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation follow standard CNC and manual milling machine conventions.
This end mill is suited for general-purpose profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling in job shops, production machining environments, and toolroom applications. The 0.5 inch shank diameter fits standard ER collets, end mill holders, and Weldon-style tool holders commonly found on vertical machining centers and knee mills. It is appropriate for machining aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and similar materials when paired with correct feeds, speeds, and coolant strategies. The uncoated micrograin carbide substrate makes it a practical choice where regrinding is part of the tool management workflow.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe lockout state before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the recommended minimum insertion depth for the holder type being used — insufficient engagement is a leading cause of tool pullout and workpiece damage. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping before beginning a cut.
