The OSG 4550508 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations where toughness and wear resistance are priorities. It carries a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) finish that reduces friction and extends tool life compared to uncoated tooling. With a 5/8 inch cutting diameter, 4-flute configuration, and 30-degree helix angle, this end mill delivers efficient chip evacuation and a smooth cutting action in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The single-end geometry and centercutting capability allow plunge entry as well as conventional side milling. At 3-3/4 inches overall length with a 1-5/8 inch length of cut, it fits standard toolholders used in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is suited for job shops, tool rooms, and production environments working with alloy steels, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials. The fine-pitch flute spacing and right-hand cut with right-hand flutes make it a reliable choice for climb or conventional milling passes at moderate to high feed rates. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in vertical mills, horizontal machining centers, and multi-axis setups requiring consistent dimensional control.
Designed as a standard-shank replacement end mill for use in 5/8 inch collets, end mill holders, or shrink-fit toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual vertical mills. Part of the OSG Series 455 regular-length end mill family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the holder to the minimum insertion depth recommended by the toolholder manufacturer, and torque retention screws or collet nuts with the appropriate spanner or wrench. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before engaging the cut, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear and degrades surface finish.
