The OSG 4500300 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in metal fabrication and machining environments. It features a 0.5-inch cutting diameter, a 2-inch length of cut (LOC), and a 4-inch overall length (OAL) with a 0.5-inch shank diameter. The 4-flute geometry supports efficient chip evacuation during slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth cutting action and reduced chatter. This tool is uncoated cobalt construction, making it well suited for tougher alloys and applications where regrinding is common practice. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this end mill in job shop and production environments.
The OSG 4500300 is suited for use in vertical machining centers, manual knee mills, and CNC milling machines. Its long-series configuration provides extended reach for deeper pockets and stepped features without requiring a tool extension. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation match standard spindle rotation on conventional milling setups. The fine pitch classification and cobalt substrate make it a practical choice for milling carbon steel, alloy steel, tool steel, and similar ferrous materials.
Designed as a standard single-end square end mill for use in 0.5-inch collets, end mill holders, or equivalent toolholding systems on vertical mills and machining centers. Part of the OSG Series 450 long-length end mill line.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder and torque the set screw or collet nut per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before taking the first cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on a 4-flute tool.
