The OSG 444-5000 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining environments. Built from micrograin carbide, it delivers the hardness and edge retention needed for demanding cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 4-flute, spiral-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. At 0.5 inches in diameter with a 1-inch length of cut and 4-inch overall length, it fits standard milling setups without extended-reach adapters. Centercutting capability allows for direct plunge entry. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in production and job-shop environments.
The 444-5000 is suited for general-purpose milling applications including slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling. Its right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration make it compatible with standard spindle rotation on vertical machining centers and knee mills. The regular-length profile keeps it rigid during side milling passes. Uncoated construction is appropriate for use with cutting fluid in applications where coating buildup or heat accumulation is not a primary concern. This is a double-end design, providing two usable cutting ends for extended tool life.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement end mill for standard 1/2-inch collet or end mill holder tooling systems on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolroom procedures. Secure the shank fully within the collet or end mill holder to the minimum engagement depth required for the holder type, and torque the drawbar or clamping mechanism per the machine manufacturer specification. Confirm spindle rotation direction matches the right-hand cut orientation before engaging the workpiece. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use.
