The OSG 424-500011 is a double-end, four-flute square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with TiAlN for heat and wear resistance, this tool handles demanding cutting conditions at elevated speeds. The stub-length body measures 3 inches overall with a 5/8-inch length of cut and a 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical shank. A 30-degree right-hand spiral helix promotes efficient chip evacuation while maintaining surface finish quality. Center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as standard peripheral milling. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production environments install this type of tooling.
This end mill suits ferrous and non-ferrous metalworking operations including slotting, profiling, and pocketing. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life per unit. Its stub-length design offers rigidity in setups where overhang must be minimized. TiAlN coating makes it well suited for dry or semi-dry cutting of steels, stainless alloys, and cast iron at higher surface footage than uncoated carbide tooling. It is part of the OSG 424 series.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit cutting tool for milling machines and CNC machining centers accepting a 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical shank with standard ER or side-lock tool holders.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before mounting or removing the tool. Secure the shank fully within the tool holder to the manufacturer-specified engagement depth and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut selection based on workpiece material.
