The OSG 424-5000 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal cutting and machining environments. Built from micrograin carbide, it delivers consistent edge strength and wear resistance across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Key dimensions include a 0.5 inch mill diameter, a 0.625 inch length of cut, a 0.5 inch shank diameter, and a 3 inch overall length. The 4-flute, 30-degree spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting performance. This is a stub-length end mill, offering rigidity in tight-clearance setups. It is uncoated and not centercutting.
This end mill is suited for general-purpose milling applications in production machine shops, toolrooms, and CNC machining centers. The stub-length profile makes it appropriate for face milling, slotting, and profiling operations where tool overhang must be minimized. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional CNC spindle setups. Machinists and CNC operators working with aluminum, steel, stainless, and similar workpiece materials will find this tool a practical fit for medium-duty finishing and semi-finish passes.

Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated per shop safety protocols. Seat the 0.5 inch shank fully into a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use. Because this tool is not centercutting, do not program plunge moves directly into the workpiece — use ramping or helical entry strategies instead.
