The OSG 412-5000 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 0.625 inch length of cut, and a 0.5 inch shank diameter, with an overall length of 2.5 inches. The two-flute spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and clean cutting action. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide, this tool delivers consistent edge retention under demanding cutting conditions. It is centercutting capable, allowing direct plunge entry into workpieces. The uncoated finish makes it suitable for a broad range of general milling operations without coating-specific limitations.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on machining centers and manual mills in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. Its stub-length classification makes it a rigid choice for applications where minimizing deflection is a priority, such as slotting, profiling, and pocketing in tighter setups. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional spindle rotation. Machinists working with aluminum, steel, brass, and similar materials will find this tool appropriate for general-purpose material removal where a two-flute geometry is preferred for chip clearance.
Designed as a general-purpose solid carbide square end mill compatible with standard 1/2 inch collets and end mill holders on vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard tooling setup procedures. Secure the shank fully within the collet or end mill holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening. Verify spindle speed and feed rate settings against material-specific cutting data before operation. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use and replace the tool if edge integrity is compromised.
