The OSG 4100001111 is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting unified fine thread (UNF) internal threads in a single helical pass. Built from solid carbide and finished with OSG EXO coating, this tool delivers hard-wearing performance in demanding CNC milling applications. The 3-flute, right-hand design cuts a 5/16-24 UNF thread profile with a 0.2450 inch cutting diameter and a 0.5000 inch length of cut. At 3.0000 inches overall length with a 1/4 inch shank, it mounts directly in standard collet chucks and tool holders used in production and job-shop environments. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC programmers.
This thread mill is suited for machining UNF 5/16-24 threaded holes in ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where thread milling is preferred over tapping. Typical applications include precision component manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and general machining where thread quality and tool life are critical. The EXO coating provides enhanced lubricity and wear resistance, making it appropriate for dry or minimal-quantity lubrication (MQL) cutting strategies. It is used in vertical and horizontal machining centers capable of helical interpolation.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation; fits standard 1/4 inch collet chucks and end mill holders. Part of the OSG Series 41000 thread mill lineup for UNF thread applications.
Thread mills require a CNC control capable of helical interpolation (G02/G03 with Z-axis movement). Secure the shank fully in the tool holder to the recommended grip depth before running; excessive overhang reduces rigidity and thread accuracy. Verify spindle speed, feed rate, and helical pitch parameters in the CAM program before cutting. Always inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use, as carbide tools can fail suddenly under improper cutting conditions.
