The OSG 404-343808 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining environments. Built from micrograin carbide and finished with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, it delivers hardness and wear resistance suited for ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting at moderate to high feed rates. At 0.3438 inches in diameter with a 1-inch length of cut and 2-1/2 inch overall length, this end mill fits compact tooling setups while maintaining rigidity. Centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole.
This end mill is used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills for peripheral milling, slotting, and plunge cutting. The 3/8-inch shank diameter is compatible with standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style tool holders common in production and job shop environments. It is appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel, stainless, aluminum, and similar machinable alloys. The regular length classification and non-extended reach profile make it well suited for general-purpose cavity work and contour milling where rigidity is a priority.
Designed as a standard replacement or production tooling option for Series 404 OSG square end mills with a 3/8-inch shank diameter. Compatible with ER collet systems, end mill holders, and other tool holders accepting a 3/8-inch straight shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the end mill. Apply appropriate clamping torque per the tool holder specification to avoid slippage without damaging the shank. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation, as excessive runout will accelerate wear and reduce surface finish quality.
