The OSG 404-218808 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin carbide stock and finished with a TiCN coating, it delivers extended tool life and thermal resistance in demanding cuts. The 7/32 inch (0.2188 inch) cutting diameter pairs with a 1/4 inch shank and a 5/8 inch length of cut, making it well-suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations. Four spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. This is a centercutting tool, so it can plunge directly into workpiece material when required. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, toolrooms, and production environments are the primary installers.
The 404-218808 is a single-end, right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool in OSG Series 404. It is intended for use in ferrous and non-ferrous metals where TiCN coating provides a performance advantage over uncoated carbide. With a 2-1/2 inch overall length and a regular-length classification, it fits standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders with 1/4 inch bore. Extended reach is not a design feature of this tool, keeping it optimized for rigidity over longer overhangs. Typical applications include finish milling, light slotting, and contour passes on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide square end mill in OSG Series 404, compatible with standard 1/4 inch bore ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and side-lock holders used on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended minimum engagement depth and torque the collet nut or set screw per the holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production run to avoid premature tool wear or workpiece damage.
