The OSG 404-1772 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal cutting and general machining applications. With a 0.1772 inch (4.50 mm) mill diameter and a 0.5512 inch (14.00 mm) length of cut, this tool delivers consistent material removal in both ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The 4-flute, spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and surface finish quality. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide, the 404-1772 maintains cutting edge integrity under demanding feed and speed conditions. This is a centercutting end mill, allowing plunge entry into workpiece material. The uncoated finish suits applications where coating is not required or where the operator applies a separate lubricant strategy.
This end mill is suited for use in CNC machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines across job shop, tool room, and production environments. The 5.00 mm shank diameter and 51.00 mm overall length fit standard collet and end mill holder systems. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry make it compatible with conventional spindle rotation. It is well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling at the smaller diameter range, where carbide rigidity is critical to dimensional accuracy.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use solid carbide square end mill fitting standard collet systems that accept a 5.00 mm shank diameter in the OSG Series 404 line.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Secure the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder to the recommended engagement depth per the toolholder manufacturer specifications, ensuring concentricity before operation. Always verify spindle speed and feed rate against the material being cut and the tool diameter before starting a cut. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and replace the tool when edge condition degrades to avoid workpiece damage.
