The OSG 403-1000-BN is a solid carbide ball end mill from the 403BN series, designed for both roughing and finishing operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a 1-inch cutting diameter, a 1.5-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle that balances chip evacuation with cutting stability. The micrograin carbide substrate provides edge rigidity and wear resistance without a coating, offering a bright, uncoated finish suitable for applications where coating interaction or cost is a concern. Three flutes in a helical, right-hand configuration deliver consistent chip flow in standard milling setups. This end mill is installed and operated by machinists and tooling professionals in CNC machining environments.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It is appropriate for both roughing passes and finish milling where a ball nose profile is required for contoured or radius-floor features. The single-end design and straight-cylindrical shank with a 1-inch diameter allow direct mounting in standard ER or end mill holders without additional adapters. This tool fits general-purpose CNC milling applications in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments where a reliable, uncoated carbide ball mill is needed at a standard reach.
Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Designed as a single-end ball end mill for use in standard CNC end mill holders accepting a 1-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Ensure the holder bore and shank are clean and free of chips or debris before clamping to full engagement depth. Follow the machine tool manufacturer torque specifications for the holder style in use and verify runout after installation before initiating a cut.
