The OSG 3370014205 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 1/4-20 UNC internal threads in through-hole applications. Built from powdered metal and finished with an HR (heat-resistant) coating, this tap is engineered for use in harder and more demanding workpiece materials. It features a plug chamfer, 3 flutes, and a right-hand thread direction. The H5 thread limit provides controlled oversize tolerance suitable for precision threading work. Overall length is 3.15 inches with a thread length of 1.125 inches and a shank diameter of 0.255 inches. This tap belongs to OSG Series 337NI, a line built specifically for high-performance threading in difficult materials.
This tap is suited for threading through-holes in hardened steel, stainless steel, and high-nickel alloys. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, making it the preferred choice for through-hole work on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines in production and job-shop environments. The HR coating improves heat resistance and tool life when cutting materials that generate significant friction and heat at the cutting edge. Machinists and toolmakers working in aerospace, oil and gas, and heavy industrial applications will find this tap appropriate for their threading requirements.
Designed for threading 1/4-20 UNC through-holes in hardened steel, stainless steel, and high-nickel alloy workpieces. Coolant-through capability is not included. Not intended for interrupted threads or oversize applications.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and cutting fluid selection for the target material. Ensure the machine spindle is properly aligned with the hole to prevent tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for stainless steel or high-nickel alloys. Inspect the tap for wear or damage before each use and replace at the first sign of cutting edge deterioration.
