The OSG 3318830 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel and other ferrous workpiece materials. It carries a WD1 coating and features a 120-degree drill point angle with an R+W-thinned point for self-centering entry. The overall length is 101 mm (3.976 inches) with a 50 mm (1.969 inches) flute length and a straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 9 mm (0.354 inches). The 8.3 mm (0.3268 inches) cutting diameter holds a tight tolerance of +0 to -0.027 mm. This bit belongs to OSG Series 5171 and is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and production drilling operations.
The 3318830 is suited for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in steel workpieces where precision entry and clean hole geometry are required. The slow spiral flute design and tapered web configuration support controlled chip evacuation in these applications. With a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, the bit handles moderate drilling depths without coolant-through capability, making it appropriate for setups relying on flood or mist coolant externally applied. It is sold individually and fits standard CNC and manual drilling operations in job shop and production environments.

Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling professionals familiar with carbide tooling requirements. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized chuck or collet before operation, and verify runout is within acceptable limits to avoid premature tool breakage. This bit does not support coolant-through delivery, so external flood or mist coolant should be applied at the cutting zone. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used in conditions with excessive vibration or interrupted cuts without confirming suitability.
