The OSG 3181842 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. This single-end tool features a 0.1654 inch (4.20 mm) diameter with a 0.248 inch (6.30 mm) length of cut, making it well suited for tight-tolerance profiling, slotting, and plunge-cutting tasks. The WXL finish enhances wear resistance and extends tool life in demanding cut conditions. With a 30-degree helix angle and right-hand spiral fluting, this end mill delivers efficient chip evacuation and consistent surface finishes. It is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry into the workpiece. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers and users of this tool.
This end mill is used in production and job-shop environments where small-diameter, high-precision cuts are required. The stub-length geometry provides added rigidity, reducing deflection during aggressive passes in steel, aluminum, and other machinable materials. The 6.00 mm shank diameter and 50.00 mm overall length make it compatible with standard collet and toolholder systems used on CNC mills and machining centers. It is classified under OSG Series 3720, an extra-fine material grade carbide line intended for applications demanding tight dimensional control and a clean finish.
Designed for use in standard collet chucks and end mill holders with a 6.00 mm shank bore, common on CNC vertical machining centers and manual knee mills. Part of the OSG Series 3720 solid carbide end mill line.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Secure the shank fully within the collet or toolholder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening to avoid runout. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and depth of cut.
