The OSG 3173012 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precise milling operations in metal, composites, and hard materials. It features a 0.0787-inch cutting diameter, a 0.1181-inch length of cut, and a 0.1575-inch shank diameter. The four-flute, right-hand cut geometry with a 35-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes at elevated feed rates. The WXL coating improves wear resistance and extends tool life in demanding applications. This is a centercutting, single-end tool suited for slotting, profiling, and plunge operations where a small-diameter carbide end mill is required.
This end mill is used in precision machining environments including mold and die work, aerospace component manufacturing, and general metalworking where tight tolerances and fine feature detail are critical. The extended reach design, with a 12 mm reach length, allows access to deeper pockets and recessed features without sacrificing rigidity. It is appropriate for CNC machining centers running high-speed milling programs. Machinists and tooling specialists working with ferrous and non-ferrous alloys will find this tool well suited to finish and semi-finish passes.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide square end mill compatible with standard CNC tool holders and collets accepting a 0.1575-inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with CNC tooling setup. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer is disabled before inserting or removing the end mill from its holder. Confirm collet size and runout tolerance before securing the tool, as small-diameter carbide end mills are sensitive to excessive runout. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling supplier recommendations for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut appropriate to the workpiece material.
