The OSG 3172508 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. With a 0.0591-inch cutting diameter and four flutes cut in a right-hand, 35-degree helix, this end mill delivers clean, efficient material removal in hardened and difficult-to-cut materials. The WXL coating improves wear resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. A micrograin carbide substrate provides the rigidity and edge retention needed for tight-tolerance work. This tool is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators in job shop, toolroom, and production environments.
This end mill is suited for small-feature milling operations where a compact cutting diameter and extended reach are required. The 0.0906-inch length of cut and 0.1575-inch shank diameter allow it to reach into confined areas while maintaining shank rigidity. The extended reach design makes it appropriate for deep-pocket or stepped-bore applications in ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. It is installed as a single-end tool in standard CNC machining centers or manual milling machines equipped with a compatible collet or tool holder.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for CNC machining centers and manual mills using a 0.1575-inch (4.00 mm) shank collet or tool holder. Confirm collet size and runout tolerance before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle lock is engaged before loading or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully in a clean, undamaged collet to the recommended engagement depth and torque the collet nut per the tool holder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, and confirm proper runout with a dial indicator prior to production cutting.
