The OSG 3172506 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 0.0591-inch (1.5 mm) cutting diameter and four flutes with a 35-degree helix angle, producing clean, accurate cuts at small-diameter scales. The WXL coating provides wear resistance and extended tool life in demanding machining environments. At 0.0906 inches (2.3 mm) length of cut and a 0.1575-inch (4.0 mm) shank diameter, this tool is built for tight-tolerance work in CNC machining centers. Micrograin carbide construction supports high-speed feeds and minimizes deflection at this diameter range. Machinists and toolroom operators working in precision and prototype environments are the primary users of this end mill.
This end mill is suited for finish milling, slotting, and profiling operations at small feature scales. The extended reach design allows access to recessed features and deep-wall pockets within its cutting envelope. Right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction matches standard CNC spindle rotation. Its length-of-cut range covers 0.0000 to 0.1000 inches, making it appropriate for shallow-to-moderate depth passes in precision machining applications including mold, die, and medical component work.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or toolroom addition for CNC machining centers and manual mills using a 0.1575-inch (4.0 mm) shank diameter collet or tool holder.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully and evenly in a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder to the recommended grip length — avoid gripping on the fluted section. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing a cut, as excessive runout at this diameter will accelerate tool wear and reduce surface finish quality.
