The OSG 3146403 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in production and maintenance applications. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a nitride coating, it handles harder workpieces and repeated use cycles better than standard HSS taps. The plug chamfer — 3 to 5 threads of lead — makes it a general-purpose choice for through-holes and deeper blind holes where chip clearance is managed manually. Four flutes provide rigidity and accurate thread form. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians use this tap in drill presses, CNC tapping heads, or hand-tap operations where a straight flute geometry is preferred.
This tap is suited for threading plastic and similarly machinable materials where straight flute geometry keeps the tool stable and threads clean. The 10-32 UNF thread profile is common in instrumentation panels, electrical enclosures, and light mechanical assemblies. Right-hand thread direction and a 2B class of fit meet standard fastener tolerances for most commercial and industrial applications. Series 114 from OSG is a general-purpose straight flute line intended for shops that need reliable thread quality on moderate production runs without specialized tooling setups.
Designed for tapping 10-32 UNF threads in plastic and comparable materials. Fits standard tap holders and hand-tap wrenches sized for the 0.194-inch shank diameter. Suitable for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual tapping arms configured for straight flute taps.
A licensed machinist or qualified technician should select the correct tap drill size for 10-32 UNF before use — drilling to the wrong minor diameter will cause tap breakage or undersize threads. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the surface before starting the thread. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material even though this tap does not require coolant-through delivery. Reverse the tap periodically when hand-tapping to break chips and prevent binding.
