The OSG 3056279 is a 2-flute solid carbide ball end mill engineered for high-precision finishing in hard and high-hardness steel applications. With a 2.00 mm (0.0787 inches) cutting diameter and a 30-degree medium helix angle, this tool delivers controlled material removal in both roughing and finishing operations. The extended long-neck geometry features a 1.95 mm neck diameter and a 13.80 mm reach length, allowing access to deep cavities and tight-tolerance workpiece features. DUROREY PVD coating enhances wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge, making this mill appropriate for demanding ferrous alloys. It is part of OSG Series 8590 and sold as a single-end tool with a straight-cylindrical shank.
This end mill is designed for machining hard materials and steels in precision milling operations. The extended neck and long-neck configuration make it well-suited for mold and die work, deep pocket finishing, and contour milling where reach beyond a standard-length tool is required. The right-hand cut and right-hand helical flute geometry are standard for conventional CNC milling centers. The 4.00 mm straight shank fits common collet and end mill holder tooling systems used in vertical and horizontal machining centers. No through-spindle coolant is supported; external coolant application is the appropriate method for this tool.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers with 4.00 mm collet or end mill holder tooling. Rated for hard materials (material code H) as primary workpiece and steel (material code P) as secondary workpiece. Suitable for roughing and finishing operations per OSG Series 8590 application guidelines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the collet or tool holder is clean and within manufacturer runout tolerances before seating the shank; excessive runout will accelerate wear on a tool of this diameter. Spindle must be fully stopped and locked out before tool changes. Do not use through-spindle coolant, as this tool does not support it; apply external coolant or minimum quantity lubrication as appropriate for the workpiece material.
