The OSG 2988301 is a spiral flute bottoming tap designed for cutting M6x1.00 metric coarse internal threads in blind holes. It features a right-hand spiral flute geometry with a 50-degree helix angle that evacuates chips upward out of the hole, making it well suited for through and blind-hole applications where chip packing is a concern. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it carries a 6H class of fit and is built to produce consistent, accurate threads in production and repair environments. The overall length is 2.5 inches with a shank diameter of 0.255 inches.
This tap is intended for use on aluminum and carbon steel workpieces in machining, fabrication, and maintenance settings. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, which is critical when full thread engagement depth is required near a shoulder or a stopped bore. It is sized and configured for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping operations alike.
