The OSG 2943201 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting internal 5/8-11 UNC threads in a range of ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, this tap delivers controlled chip evacuation through its 4-flute, right-hand spiral design and a 45-degree helix angle. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. It is suited for production tapping operations in machine shop, fabrication, and maintenance environments where consistent thread quality and tool life are priorities for machinists and toolroom technicians.
This tap is intended for use in materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, die steel, and hardened steel. The 2B class of fit and H5 thread limit make it appropriate for standard-tolerance threaded assemblies across industrial and OEM applications. Its modified bottoming chamfer and spiral flute geometry are particularly well suited to blind-hole tapping where chip packing is a concern.
Designed for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, die steel, and hardened steel workpieces requiring a 5/8-11 UNC internal thread. Part of OSG Series 290.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using a tapping head, CNC machine, or tap wrench rated for the tool shank diameter. Power down and secure all equipment before changing tooling. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. Do not exceed the rated speed for the workpiece material and tool size, and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled hole to avoid tap breakage.
