The OSG 2923408 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 10-24 UNC internal threads in demanding materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, it delivers hardness and lubricity needed for threading alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, die steel, and hardened steel. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of blind holes. With a 45-degree helix angle, the spiral flute design pulls chips up and out of the hole during cutting, reducing clog risk and improving thread finish. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance mechanics typically reach for this tap on manual or CNC tapping applications where chip evacuation is critical.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance threading operations across industrial, toolroom, and manufacturing environments. The 10-24 UNC thread form is common in machine screws, electrical enclosures, panel hardware, and light structural assemblies. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it a practical choice when thread engagement near the base of a blind hole is required. Right-hand thread direction matches standard right-hand fastener stock. The TiCN coating extends tool life when working with harder ferrous materials that would quickly wear an uncoated HSS tap.
Designed as an OEM-style threading tool for use in standard 10-24 UNC blind and through-hole tapping applications across a range of ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, die steel, and hardened steel.
Install in a tap holder, tapping head, or rigid CNC spindle appropriate for the machine and workpiece setup. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the drilled hole before beginning the threading cycle. Use cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material, particularly when tapping stainless or hardened steel, to reduce heat buildup and extend tap life. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use and replace if the cutting edges show signs of deterioration.
