The OSG 2888401 is a spiral point tap designed for threading M8x1.25 metric coarse holes in a production or job-shop environment. It features a plug chamfer for through-hole applications and a 6H class of fit, which is the standard tolerance for general-purpose metric fastener threads. Constructed from high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, this tap is built to resist heat and light corrosion during cutting operations. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, keeping the flute area clear and allowing consistent thread formation at higher feed rates compared to a hand tap.

This tap is suited for through-hole tapping in aluminum, cast aluminum, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel.
