The OSG 2886100 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-hole applications. It produces 3/8-24 UNF threads using a 3-flute, plug chamfer geometry that pushes chips ahead of the cutting edge rather than packing them into the flute. This reduces clogging and improves thread quality in production environments. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright finish, the tap measures 2.938 inches overall length with a 0.776-inch thread length and a 0.381-inch shank diameter. It cuts right-hand threads to a 2B class of fit, the standard tolerance for most general-purpose fastener assemblies.
This tap is suited for threading through-holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. It is commonly used in machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and light manufacturing where 3/8-24 UNF fastener threads are required. The spiral point design makes it particularly effective in CNC tapping operations and power-feed applications where through-hole access allows chips to exit cleanly from the bottom of the workpiece.

This tap is intended for use by machinists and maintenance professionals using standard tap holders, tapping heads, or CNC machine spindles. Secure the workpiece and ensure the through-hole is properly sized for the 3/8-24 UNF thread form before starting. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping regularly, as a dull tap increases the risk of breakage inside the part.
