The OSG 2843608 is a spiral point plug tap designed for threading 3/4-10 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Built from High-Speed Steel-E (HSS-E), this tap offers improved toughness and heat resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The TiCN coating reduces friction, extends tool life, and helps maintain cutting edge integrity during high-volume production runs. With 3 flutes, an H5 thread limit, and a right-hand thread direction, it is suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping operations. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and production shop technicians are the primary users of this tap.
This tap is appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole tapping applications where chip evacuation forward is acceptable. The spiral point design pushes chips ahead of the tap rather than backing them out, making it most effective in through-hole scenarios. Compatible workpiece materials include aluminum, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, and cast iron. It is well suited to both job shop and production environments requiring a reliable 3/4-10 UNC thread form.
Designed as an OEM-style tap for 3/4-10 UNC threading operations across aluminum, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, and cast iron workpieces.
This tap is installed by a machinist or tool-and-die technician using a tap holder, tapping head, or rigid tapping chuck sized for the 0.59-inch shank diameter. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before engaging the tap to avoid tool breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material, particularly when tapping stainless steel or hardened steel. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping between uses, as a dull cutting edge significantly increases the risk of tap breakage in tough materials.
