The OSG 2833401 is a spiral point plug tap designed for threading through-holes in a wide range of metals. Built from Vanadium High Speed Steel-E with a steam oxide coating, this tap generates threads to the 5/8-18 UNF standard at a 3B class of fit with an H3 thread limit. The three-flute, spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, keeping the flutes clear and reducing the risk of re-cutting broken chips. Overall length is 3.811 inches with a 1.910-inch thread length and a 0.480-inch shank diameter. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians use this tap in production and repair threading operations.

This tap is suited for right-hand threading in through-hole applications across a broad material range including aluminum, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The plug chamfer distributes the cutting load over several leading threads, making it appropriate for general-purpose through-hole tapping where a starter tap is not required. Installation Notes

Install and operate this tap using a properly sized tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC machine tool chuck rated for the shank diameter. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for 5/8-18 UNF before starting. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap.
