The OSG 2818901 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal 10-32 UNF threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high speed steel with a steam oxide finish, this tap delivers consistent chip ejection ahead of the cut, reducing the risk of chip packing in through-hole applications. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in over several threads, making it well-suited for through-hole tapping where full thread depth is required. At 2.374 inches overall length with a 0.492 inch thread length and H6 thread limit, it fits standard tap holders used in production and maintenance machining environments. Installation requires right-hand rotation. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This tap is intended for through-hole tapping operations in both machine and hand-tapping setups. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward rather than backing them out, making it most effective in through-hole work. Suitable material applications include aluminum, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, and cast iron. It is commonly used in production shops, MRO maintenance work, and field repair operations where 10-32 UNF fastener holes are required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use spiral point tap for 10-32 UNF through-hole tapping applications in standard tap holders and tapping heads accepting a 0.194 inch shank diameter.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should verify proper tap holder alignment before beginning the tapping cycle to prevent tap breakage. Secure the workpiece firmly and use a cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material, particularly when tapping stainless steel or hardened steel. Never reverse a spiral point tap under load without first clearing chip buildup. Follow applicable shop safety practices and machine guarding requirements throughout operation.
