The OSG 2813808 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in a 10-32 UNF thread form. It is manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E (HSS-E), a cobalt-enhanced grade that resists heat and wear during high-speed tapping operations. The TiCN coating adds surface hardness and reduces friction against the workpiece. With a plug chamfer, 3 flutes, and an H3 thread limit, this tap produces consistent, in-tolerance threads with reliable chip evacuation forward through the hole. Overall length is 2.37 inches with a thread length of 0.492 inches. It is suited for use in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and hand tapping setups where right-hand threads are required.
This tap is intended for threading through-holes in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other hard materials. The spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the cutting edge rather than packing them into the flutes, making it the correct choice when the workpiece allows chip exit from the bottom of the hole. The 10-32 UNF designation is common in instrument-grade fastener applications, electronic enclosures, and light mechanical assemblies where fine thread engagement is required. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production or job-shop environments will find this tap compatible with standard tap holders and floating tap heads for that size range.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hard materials. Compatible with standard 10-32 UNF tap holder collets and floating tap chucks. Part of OSG Series 280.
This tap should be installed in a properly sized tap holder with adequate float to prevent thread distortion. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap-drill diameter for 10-32 UNF prior to tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when tapping stainless steel or hard alloys. Never reverse a tap under power without verifying the holder and machine support reversing operation to avoid breakage.
