The OSG 2807601 is a spiral point tap designed to cut 6-40 UNF internal threads in a wide range of metals. Also called a gun tap, the spiral point pushes chips ahead of the cutting edge rather than packing them into the flute, making it well suited for through-hole tapping. The tap is ground from 3% vanadium high-speed steel (HSS-E) for improved wear resistance over standard M2 HSS and is finished with a steam oxide coating that provides light lubricity and corrosion resistance during storage and use. The H2 thread limit holds close tolerances compatible with 2B and 3B class-of-fit specifications. With a 2-inch overall length and a 0.141-inch shank diameter, the 2807601 fits standard tap holders and machine spindles used in both manual and CNC tapping operations.
