The OSG 2592901 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting M16x2.00 metric coarse internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel (HSS-E) with a steam oxide coating, this plug-chamfer tap drives chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well-suited for through-hole tapping applications. The 6H class of fit delivers standard tolerance threads compatible with metric fastener assemblies. With 3 flutes, a 4.331-inch overall length, and a 1-13/16-inch thread length, it is sized for medium-to-large diameter threading work in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is used in machining, fabrication, and maintenance repair operations where M16 metric coarse threads are required. It performs in through-hole applications across a broad spectrum of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and skilled maintenance technicians are the primary installers. The right-hand thread direction and plug chamfer entry make it a standard choice for CNC tapping, drill press setups, and hand-tapping operations on structural and mechanical assemblies.
Designed for tapping M16x2.00 metric coarse through-holes in aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, and hardened steel workpieces.
This tap should be installed in a tap holder or collet sized for the 12.192 mm (0.480-inch) shank diameter and 14.2875 mm square drive. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle or tap handle is aligned perpendicular to the hole before engagement. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to prolong tap life and maintain thread quality. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use and replace at the first sign of cutting edge degradation to avoid thread damage or tap breakage.
