The OSG 2592801 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting internal metric fine threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Ground from Vanadium High Speed Steel with a steam oxide coating, this tap produces an M16x1.50 thread profile to a 6H class of fit with consistent dimensional accuracy. The 3-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for through-hole tapping operations. Overall length is 3.937 inches (100 mm) and thread length is 1-13/16 inches (24 mm). The 0.480-inch shank diameter fits standard tap holders and machine spindles. Right-hand thread direction only. Coolant-through feature is not present on this model.
The OSG 2592801 is intended for production and job-shop environments where metric fine threads are required in through-hole applications. Suitable material applications include aluminum, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, and cast iron. The plug chamfer provides a standard lead-in appropriate for most through-hole tapping on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines. Part of the OSG Series 259 line of spiral point taps.
Designed for use in through-hole tapping operations requiring an M16x1.50 metric fine thread. Compatible with standard 0.480-inch shank tap holders, collet chucks, and floating tap heads used on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines. Part of OSG Series 259.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Secure the tap in a properly sized holder rated for the shank diameter before operation. Ensure the workpiece is firmly fixtured and the spindle is aligned to prevent tap breakage, particularly in harder alloys. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material; consult material-specific tapping guidelines for feed rate and speed settings.
