The OSG 2592301 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting metric coarse internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel (HSS-E) and finished with a steam oxide coating, this tap delivers reliable wear resistance and chip evacuation in production and maintenance tapping operations. The plug chamfer geometry provides a gradual thread engagement suited for through-hole applications. With a 6H class of fit, it produces standard-tolerance metric threads that meet common engineering and fastener specifications. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians install this type of tap in manual or CNC tapping operations.
This tap is sized for M12x1.75 metric coarse threads and is well suited for through-hole tapping in materials including aluminum, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened steel. The 3-flute spiral point design pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it effective in through-hole setups on both manual machines and CNC machining centers. It is part of OSG Series 259, a line oriented toward general-purpose metric tapping across a broad material range.
Designed as an OEM-style production tap for M12x1.75 metric coarse through-hole tapping applications across the material types listed in the specifications. Specific machine compatibility depends on spindle toolholding, tap chuck, or rigid tapping adapter rated for the shank diameter of 0.3670 inches.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap chuck, collet holder, or rigid tapping head matched to the 0.3670-inch shank diameter. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is aligned axially with the pre-drilled hole before engaging the tap. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Never reverse the tap under load without confirming the machine or holder is set up for reversing-spindle or synchronized tapping to avoid breakage.
