The OSG 2533801 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting 3/4-16 UNF right-hand internal threads in through-hole applications. Manufactured from Vanadium High Speed Steel (HSS-E) with a steam oxide coating, it provides improved lubricity and corrosion resistance during cutting. The plug chamfer distributes cutting load over several leading threads for easier entry and reduced torque. With a 1.21-inch thread length and 4.331-inch overall length, it suits standard through-hole tapping operations in both manual and machine setups. This tap is built to an H2 thread limit and a 2B class of fit, delivering consistent thread tolerance across production runs.
The OSG 2533801 is suited for threading through-holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including aluminum, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It is commonly used in machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production environments where accurate UNF thread profiles are required. The 3-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, making it most effective in through-hole applications rather than blind holes.
Designed as a standard replacement or production tap for any application requiring a 3/4-16 UNF, 2B class of fit, right-hand internal thread in through-hole workpieces. No coolant-through capability; best suited for applications using cutting fluid applied externally.
This tap is installed by licensed machinists or qualified shop technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC machine tool spindle. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for a 3/4-16 UNF thread before beginning. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Do not reverse the tap abruptly without clearing chips, and avoid exceeding the tool's rated torque range to prevent breakage.
