The OSG 2402303 is a straight flute machine tap designed to cut 10-24 UNC internal threads in production and maintenance environments. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a nitride coating, it delivers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS taps. The plug chamfer eases thread entry by distributing the cutting load across the first few threads. With an H3 thread limit, this tap holds tight tolerances required for 2B and 3B class-of-fit applications. Licensed machinists and maintenance technicians use this tap in drill press, CNC, and tapping machine setups where straight flute geometry handles short-chipping materials efficiently.
The OSG 2402303 is suited for threading aluminum and cast iron workpieces in both job-shop and production environments. The straight flute design works best when chips break short and clear downward or with coolant flush, making it a practical choice for through-holes and shallow blind holes in these materials. At 2-3/8 inches overall length with a 7/8 inch thread length, this tap fits standard tap holders and collets used in typical machine setups. The Series 240 designation places it in OSG's standard machine tap line for inch-thread applications.

Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, tapping machine, or CNC machining center with a synchronized tapping head or floating tap holder. Always ensure the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for 10-24 UNC before tapping. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material — sulfurized oil for cast iron and a suitable aluminum cutting fluid for aluminum stock. Never reverse the tap under power without confirming the machine is set for synchronized reversal, and inspect the tap for wear or chipping after high-volume runs.
