The OSG 2401903 is a straight flute machine tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads to the 8-32 UNC standard. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a nitride coating, it delivers improved wear resistance and surface hardness compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The plug chamfer allows controlled thread start and is well suited for through-hole tapping applications. With a 2B class of fit and H3 thread limit, this tap produces threads within tight commercial tolerances. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians use this tap on manual mills, drill presses, and CNC tapping cycles where a straight flute geometry is appropriate for the material and setup.
This tap is rated for use in aluminum and cast iron. Its 3-flute straight flute design works best in materials that produce short, broken chips rather than long stringy swarf. The 8-32 UNC thread size is common in machine screws, instrument panels, electrical enclosures, and light mechanical assemblies. It fits standard tap holders sized for the 0.168-inch shank diameter used across this tap size range.
Rated for tapping aluminum and cast iron. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute straight flute machine tap for 8-32 UNC through-hole applications in standard tap holders accepting a 0.168-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed by a machinist or tool technician in a tap holder, collet chuck, or dedicated tapping head. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before beginning the tapping cycle. Apply a cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. On manual machines, use a tap wrench with controlled feed; on CNC equipment, verify synchronized tapping parameters match the 32 threads-per-inch pitch before running the cycle.
